Meet the School Counseling Staff
Mrs. Lisa Avila - Counselor

Mrs. Avila was born in California and raised in Whittier and Norwalk. She attended Richard Gahr High School in Cerritos, and transitioned to Cerritos Community College where she earned two associate degrees in Psychology and Business, in addition to a husband! She completed her B.A. degree in Psychology and M.S. degree in Counseling, plus her PPS credential at California State University, Fullerton. She worked for many years, while completing her education, in the medical field as a receptionist, insurance biller, and payroll clerk. She, her husband, two adult daughters and two maltipoos reside in Orange County. Beginning her career as a temporary Guidance Technician in 1995 was exactly where she needed to be when a full-time counseling position opened in 1996, back when there were only two counselors. She loves working with the students, staff, and parents at Troy and looks forward to year 29! Her hobbies include crafting, shopping and spending time with her family.
Ms. Erin Black - Guidance Technician

Ms. Black grew up in Whittier, California and attended Pioneer High School where she was a member of the Drill Team, winning several awards with her team, as well as a member of the theatre department, both on stage and off. After high school, Ms. Black attended California State University, Fullerton and graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in History and Minor in English. Ms. Black began her career working for FJUHSD in 2004 as a Library Tech. In 2014, Ms. Black began working with ASB as an Activities Clerk. Ms. Black started at Troy High School in 2019, first as the Guidance Secretary, and is now one of two Guidance Techs. In 2021, Ms. Black earned a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Eastern Gateway Community College. Ms. Black enjoys watching true crime shows, reading, AFC Richmond, the MCU, and collecting mugs she doesn’t need. Ms. Black loves spending time with her two daughters, who keep her very busy with soccer, track, band, choir, theatre, school, and everything in between.
Mrs. Dionne Evans - Counselor

Mrs. Evans was born and raised in Anaheim, CA. She was a leader in ASB and Colorguard/Dance at Loara High School where she graduated. Her first summer job was at Baskin-Robbins (31 Flavors). She began her college education at Cypress Community College for Court Reporting while waitressing. She worked at a law firm, her family's construction company, California Pizza Kitchen and then Marriott International. It was at that time she went back to school to earn her B.S, in Organizational Leadership at Pacific Christian College (now Hope International University). After many years working in sales and marketing in hospitality she was called to her second career in education. While earning her master’s degree in Educational Counseling and PPS credential at Azusa Pacific, she was hired at Troy as a Special Education Aide and later as a Special Education Teacher. After her school counseling internship through the El Monte School District, she joyfully accepted a position as one of Troy's School Counselors. When she is not enjoying her students, Mrs. Evans is spending time with family, loving on her grandkids, riding her bicycle and traveling.
Mrs. Jacquie Morck - Counselor

Mrs. Morck was born and raised in Montebello, California. After graduating from California State University, Long Beach, Mrs. Morck worked in the private sector as a sales representative. She is married with four boys and three grandchildren. She started at Troy High School as a Guidance Technician and then went back to school at Azusa Pacific for her master’s degree in Education as well as a PPS credential in counseling. 2024-2025 is Mrs. Morck’s 29th year at Troy High School and she feels very fortunate to have a “career” that she loves very much. In her spare time she loves to bike ride at the beach, watch sports and spend time with her grandbabies.
Mrs. Stephanie Rosner - Guidance Technician

Mrs. Rosner is a Southern California native. She attended El Dorado High School and then went on to study at California State University, Fullerton. She graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. After spending the bulk of her career working in a variety of business roles, she decided to change course. She has been at Troy High School since 2015 and is well settled into the role of Guidance Technician with a focus on the College and Career Center. She loves her job because she enjoys helping students find their passion and reach their potential. She adores her husband, Scott, their children, and their four sweet grandkids. In her free time, Mrs. Rosner loves to bake, read, hike, and spend time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Sarah Saleen - Counselor

Mrs. Saleen grew up in Santa Ana, California. While attending Century High School, she was a cheerleader and involved in environmental clubs. She then attended the University of Oregon where she earned her B.A. in Sociology. After graduating she worked in youth programming at the U.S. Naval base in Bahrain and then in the San Diego area. In 2000, she returned to the area to work for a youth development program at the Orange County Department of Education. In 2006, she earned her master’s degree in School Counseling as well as her Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). After graduating from CSULB, she worked at an alternative high school in the Paramount Unified School District. In 2007, she was hired at Troy and never looked back! Mrs. Saleen enjoys time with her family and friends, watching her daughter play softball, Oregon Ducks football, working out and hot yoga.
Mrs. Carrie Slick - Mental Health Specialist

Mrs. Carrie Slick grew up mostly in Covina, then moved to Mission Viejo in high school. She graduated from Capistrano Valley High School where she obtained her ROP certificate in School-Aged Childcare. She went on to work in after-school programs and with teens with special needs, while attending several community colleges in Southern California. She finally finished her A.A. in Psychology at Fullerton College and transferred to California State University, Fullerton to earn her B.A. in Psychology. She completed her M.A. in Social Work at Azusa Pacific University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has been providing mental health support to high school students for 9+ years. She is currently working on her Expressive Arts Therapist credential and loves art, music and theater. In her free time, she likes to go camping with her family and go to concerts.
Mr. Darren Varieur - Counselor

Mr. Varieur grew up in Torrance, California. As a high school student, he was a CSF Sealbearer, member of the National Honor Society, delegate to California Boys State, and part-time Fry Guy at In-N-Out Burger. He earned his B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in English Literature from California State University at Fullerton, graduating cum laude and serving as a member of the student-led team that re-established the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) chapter on campus. After college, he began a career in the music publishing industry, eventually overseeing media and artist relations; managing contracts, business affairs, and intellectual property; and serving as a liaison to international clients. In 2021, Mr. Varieur earned his M.A. in School Counseling and PPS credential from Azusa Pacific University. During the unique 20-21 hybrid school year, he worked as an Academic Intervention Specialist in the ABC School District and served as a counseling intern at Troy before officially joining the Troy Counseling Team. Mr. Varieur enjoys ice hockey (Go Kings Go!), live music, and playing guitar.
