Founded March 3, 1955, the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) represents over 70 California private nonprofit colleges and universities. The core mission of AICCU members is to improve lives through higher education. AICCU members are committed to the public good and are incredibly diverse—ranging from large to small traditional liberal arts institutions, including nationally ranked research universities; colleges offering faith-based, performing and visual arts, and “non-traditional” programs of study; as well as professional schools that specialize in business, law, medicine, and more. Accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is required for membership, as is fulfilling a public purpose through nonprofit status. In addition to providing creative and intellectual higher education resources to assure California’s future economic vitality, AICCU members are major contributors to the economies of the regions they serve—as large employers and consumers of local goods and services. AICCU colleges and universities offer programs in more than 100 locations across California.

The Coalition for College is a group of more than 140 distinguished colleges and universities across the U.S. that joined together to increase students’ access to higher education. Our diverse member schools are united in their mission to support lower-income, under-resourced, and/or first-generation students; to provide responsible financial aid; and to bolster students’ success in college—and beyond. The Coalition was founded in 2015 by a group of dedicated college leaders aiming to improve the college application process, particularly for those students from historically under-represented groups. Today, we help make college a reality for all students through MyCoalition, our set of free, online college-planning tools that helps students learn about, prepare for, and apply to college.

Forty years ago, fifteen forward-thinking institutions of higher education got together to brainstorm something great. Instead of a student needing to complete a separate college application for each of their fifteen institutions, they envisioned a future where a student could complete one application and send copies to any of the other fourteen schools. This became known as The Common Application Experiment, and it forever changed the course of college admissions.
Today, what was once a small but innovative group of fifteen institutions has transformed to a member organization comprised of nearly seven hundred wonderfully diverse colleges and universities from across the world. Each year, nearly 1 million students use the Common Application to submit over 4 million applications.
