Mrs. Sandi Layana

I am honored to serve as the principal of La Vista and La Sierra High Schools. I have worked at LV/LS for over 30 years in a variety of different roles - Independent Study teacher, Opportunity reading teacher, LV English teacher, Dean, and Assistant Principal - prior to becoming the Principal in 2011. I started my teaching career here because it offered me the opportunity to teach in the evenings when my husband could watch our children. I quickly realized, however, that teaching continuation/alternative high school was my passion. You can affect so much change with these students. They often experience success for the first in a long time while attending our schools and it is such a privilege to be a part of that process.

At La Vista/La Sierra we believe that ALL students can learn so long as the adults surrounding them believe it to be so. Our students, on the other hand, don't always believe this for themselves. Undoing these academic mindsets takes a special level of expertise. That is why the entire LV/LS staff is Restorative Practices trained and certified in Trauma-Informed Instruction. Our teachers also regularly participate in professional development to ensure they are using the most effective instructional strategies in their classrooms. It is this focused approach, combined with the staffs' intrinsic desire to support at-promise learners, that makes this a unique academic experience for our students.

When we work together we can help our students meet their goals and follow their dreams. My staff and I look forward to working with you to make this happen for your student. Please feel free to contact me anytime. Welcome to the Lion's Pride!
