Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Sandi Layana
I am honored to serve as the principal of La Vista and La Sierra High Schools. I have worked at LV/LS for over 25 years in a variety of different roles - Independent Study teacher, Opportunity reading teacher, LV English teacher, Dean and Assistant Principal - prior to becoming the Principal in 2011. I started my teaching career here because it offered me the opportunity to teach in the evenings when my husband could watch our children. I quickly realized, however, that teaching continuation/alternative high school was my passion. You can effect so much change with these students. They often experience success for the first time ever while attending our schools and it is such a privilege to be a part of that process. I believe education can transform lives. That was something my parents, who are both teachers, instilled in me. It is something my husband (Nick, who teaches math at Sonora High School) and I instilled in our own children (Nicole, Kelsie and Collin). It must have stuck because my girls are also teachers and my son, who just graduated from college, may just decide to get a teaching credential too.
When we work together we can help our students meet their goals and follow their dreams. I look forward to working with you to make this happen. Please feel free to contact me anytime. It’s going to be a great school year!
