The Fullerton Speech and Debate Program prides itself on being a national powerhouse.

Speech and Debate, or Forensics, requires students to collaborate, think critically, listen critically, exude confidence, evaluate text, write arguments, and learn how to function in real-world settings. Our students are offered the opportunity to compete locally and nationally. For this reason, our competitive students all join the largest speech honor society in the world--The National Speech and Debate Association. Through this honor society, students are provided extra resources, training, and scholarship opportunities.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a large and thriving Forensics program as a public school. We are proud to welcome 100% of students that are interested in our program. We make sure that there is a place for all of our students at Fullerton. We welcome students who are English language learners, special needs students, anyone with the fear of public speaking, and AP/IB students. All of our students come together to become life-long teammates and friends.

Our team is proud to of had four alumni selected as class valedictorians and hundreds of students who have moved on into college (many continuing in speech ). Our alumni have attended, or currently attend, universities such as Yale, Stanford, NYU, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Northwestern, Bradley, the University of Texas at Austin, Western Kentucky, Biola, Point Loma, and countless others.

There is no secret as to why our Fullerton Speech and Debate student truly do have an advantage over the rest in terms of college admissions:

“The Wall Street Journal report did specifically highlight a ‘consistent trend’ –State and national award winners have a 22% to 30% higher acceptance rate at top tier colleges and being captain of the debate team ‘improved an applicant’s chances by more than 60% compared with the rest of the pool,’ according to the report.  This is significantly better than other extracurricular activities that tend to recruit from the same pool of students as forensic teams such as school newspaper reporter (+3%), sports team captain (+5%), class president (+5%), and band (+3%).  Even without winning major awards, participation in speech and debate develops valuable skills that colleges are seeking out and that is reflected in the above average acceptance rate for forensic students (+4%).

Speech and Debate is rigorous; it is difficult; however, nothing worthwhile is easy.
