Course Description
Year 1
Sustainable Agriculture Biology - Sustainable Agriculture/Biology is a one-year course designed to integrate biological science practices and knowledge into the practice of sustainable agriculture. The course is organized into four major sections or units, each with a guiding question. Unit one addresses the question, "What is sustainable agriculture?" Unit two addresses the question, "How does sustainable agriculture fit into our environment?" Unit three, "What molecular biology principles guide sustainable agriculture?" Unit four, "How do we make decisions to maximize sustainable agricultural practices within a functioning ecosystem? Within each unit, specific life science principles will be identified with agricultural principles and practices guiding the acquisition of this knowledge, culminating in the development of a sustainable farm model and a portfolio of supporting student research.
Year 2
Veterinary Science - Provides a study of the anatomy and physiology of small and large animals; proper health maintenance; sanitation; and the symptoms, treatment, and prevention of common diseases. Coursework will include animal nutrition, safe handling and restraint, and the control of parasites and diseases. The student will gain practical experience in veterinary medicine by conducting hands-on activities with livestock and will have the opportunity to investigate the field of veterinary medicine.
