  • Accolades:

Our Coyote Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, "CAVPA" has grown tremendously over the years. BPHS is now an Exemplary Arts School, the OC Register has featured my AP Visual Arts courses on numerous occasions in the "Varsity Arts" section and three of our students have been highlighted as artist of the week Evelyn Torres, Dwayne Mosbey and Cameron Deeth. Cameron simultaneously took all three exams and passed with higher than average scores! The Advanced Placement College Board has used one of our art student's portfolio as one of their examples located on their AP Art website. We have also been showcased in the AP Art Gallery show, only 33 students in the world are selected annually to be on display. Our AP Art students have a 100% passing rate 4 years in a row 2015-19, 36 passed out of 39 this year during a pandemic 2020. Every year my students score substantially higher than the national average! We have been honored in numerous exhibitions annually.

"Yesenia Gomez is an amazing artist, I feel honored to collaborate with her for four years where she created original masterpieces. Under my art instruction, Yesenia has taken and passed all three Advanced Placement Art exams. Yesenia has received the highest honors at the Buena Park City Hall Art Show, Fullerton Joint Union High School District Art Show, and now first place at the Congressional Art Show for district 39! Buena Park is beyond proud of this talented and well-rounded academic lady who has taken numerous college courses throughout her high school career and happens to be our 2020 Valedictorian. Yesenia has touched and inspired us all; her hard work and dedication have demonstrated resilience to rise up and conquer her dreams. We look forward to seeing her journey continue in the fall at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. Yesenia is taking part in a unique dual degree program at both schools and her majors will be mechanical engineering and industrial design." I am proud to be apart of our students success and know we will continue to thrive!

    Biography:

Inspiring young people through art education has been my passion for over sixteen years. My well rounded background working with young people and diverse art experience has equipped our student's high success rate. I spend my free time traveling the world, admiring diverse arts and cultures and exploring natural and man-made wonders. I take that experience back with me to my classroom. Seeing all types of art and cultures has equipped me to be a multifaceted artist and an inspiring art educator. I challenge students to see and create art beyond the obvious, and encourage them to explore art’s deeper significance and broaden their vision of art.

My artistic experience includes: recycled art, sculpting, photography, graphic design, painting, drawing, murals, printmaking, woodworking, metals and ceramics; all of which my students benefit from every day. I challenge students to strive for excellence; I know they are capable of greatness and I encourage them to take AP courses. It has been my pleasure to help build a well rounded Fine Arts Program at Buena Park High School.

I am currently teaching Beginning Drawing & Painting, Special Studies: Drawing & Painting, 3-D Design and 2-D Design, Advanced Placement: Drawing & Painting, 3-D and 2-D Design. We also have an annual art gallery show and take part in a variety of art shows throughout the year with and we have a high award success! Over the years, I have been the club adviser of: Art Club, Fashion Club, Yearbook Club, Anime Club and Freshman Class Advisor.
