Courses Overview
-
Advanced Robotics & Mechatronics: In this introductory class, students will learn a wide range of advanced manufacturing topics including safety, basic hand tools, measurement, print reading, and the fundamentals of mechanical, fluid power, electrical, and automation. Students will also design and build a catapult and a robotic rover. They will program a microcontroller to control the motor, servos, and sensors of their robot so it can drive and avoid obstacles autonomously. Students will have the opportunity to earn SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) Industry 4.0 certificates and compete in regional and national robotics competitions.
-
Mechatronics (Honors): In this intermediate class, students will learn a wide range of advanced manufacturing topics including mechanical drives, advanced fluid power concepts, material handling, sensors, PLC programming and project development, CNC machining, and more! Furthermore, students will build, program, calibrate, and then fly a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) through an obstacle course. They will also learn about the many uses of drones in today's modern world including medical, military, personal and professional use. Students will have the opportunity to earn SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) Industry 4.0 certificates and compete in regional and national robotics competitions.
-
Industrial Automation: In this capstone class, students will enhance their knowledge and skills in industrial process programming and integration, including the setup, teaching, testing, and modifying of FANUC Robotics HandlingTool and iRVision applications. Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to take the FANUC Certified Robot Operator-1 Certification test and the FANUC Certified iRVision 2D test. After successfully passing the tests, students will earn FANUC certifications that will jump start their careers in the Industrial Automation sector.
Program Overview
The Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics courses will build on principles such as robotics, electronics, quality assurance, pneumatics, programming and automation. They will provide content, skill development and leadership training to help students pursue further education such as industry certifications and a postsecondary degree. Successful completion of the courses will increase the student’s technological literacy and problem-solving skills, expose the student to career opportunities in technology and engineering, and provide opportunities for the student to learn and experiment with engineering design principles.
