     Sandi Layana, Principal

La Vista High School and the La Sierra High School 10th-Grade Opportunity Program serve District students who are too far behind in credits to graduate on time. Every one of these approximately 500 students needs to attend summer school. During summer these at-promise students can earn more units in La Vista and in the Opportunity Program  than they can earn at the comprehensive high school. In addition, summer is a time to orient new students to the campus and culture and to administer reading and math tests that assess learning loss and placement into appropriate intervention classes in the fall. Due to current COVID-19 guidelines established by the CDPH and OCHCA regarding social distancing on the bus and in the classroom, not all of these students can be accommodated to attend in person. Therefore, La Vista and the 10-Grade Opportunity Program will be on a Hybrid schedule this summer. However, the Governor has announced that on or around June 15, there will be a full re-opening of the economy, which will impact most capacity limits and social-distancing mandates; if this happens any time during the summer school session La Vista/La Sierra administration will pivot from the Hybrid schedule to a 100% in-person schedule the next day. Students and their families will be notified of this possibility prior to the start of summer school.
