Overview

  • The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have full and equal access to an appropriate public education. The federal education definition of homelessness based on the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a student who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including:

    • Living in a shelter, hotel, or motel.

    • Living in a public place not designed for sleeping (cars, parks, abandoned buildings, etc.).

    • Sharing housing with another family due to loss of housing or economic hardships (“doubled-up”).

    • Temporarily living in a trailer park or camping area due to the lack of adequate living accommodations.

    • A child or youth abandoned in a hospital.

    • An unaccompanied youth or runaway living in any of the circumstances described above.

La Habra High School and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District offer a wide range of supports and services to students and their families. If you live in any of the above circumstances, please contact the LHHS McKinney-Vento Site Liaison, Mr. Manny Macias (mmacias@fjuhsd.org).
