Board Members are elected by Trustee Area to a four-year term of office by the voters of the District, and as a Board, represent the entire District. The Board of Trustees acts as a unit; an individual member has no authority to act alone.
The Board chooses and employs a Superintendent of Schools to administer the educational program within controlling laws and local district policy, which is set by the Board. The Board acts upon recommendations made by the Superintendent, including the ratification of the employment of staff.
Each May the District Student Advisory Council elects one District student to be recommended for appointment to the Board of Trustees for a term of one year commencing on July 1 of the year. Even though a Student Board Member may graduate in June, the term of office shall be from July 1 to June 30. The preferential voting Student Board Member shall have the right and duty to attend all meetings of the Board of Trustees, except Closed Session.
Meetings of the Board of Trustees occur twice a month except where only one Board meeting will be held during the months of January, March, May, July, August, November, and December. Unless otherwise specified, all Regular Sessions are held at 6:00 p.m. in the Education Center Board Room, located at 1051 West Bastanchury Road, Fullerton, California. Special meetings are called, when necessary, at a time and place announced in advance.
The agenda and back-up material is available for review on the District Website and at the District Office prior to Board meetings. Meeting minutes record all actions taken by the Board. Once adopted, these minutes are public records and are available for review on the District Website and the Education Center.
