PARENT FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS

We would like to invite parents and families to participate in focused discussions about our school as part of our ongoing WASC self-study. Please see below for important details. You can RSVP through the link found at the bottom.

What is WASC Accreditation?

ACS WASC accreditation is a process schools use to monitor student learning and set school improvement goals. ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing cycle of quality. Schools assess their program and the impact on student learning with respect to the ACS WASC criteria and other accreditation factors.

ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing six-year cycle of quality whereby the school demonstrates the capacity, commitment, and competence to support high-quality student learning and ongoing school improvement. The school assesses its program and its impact on student learning with respect to the ACS WASC criteria/indicators and other accreditation factors. Schools are expected to participate in self-study training provided by ACS WASC throughout the 18 months prior to the full self-study visit. This self-study process culminates in the refinement of a 3–5 year school wide action plan. Throughout the cycle, a school is expected to address the school wide action plan and demonstrate evidence of acceptable student achievement and school improvement.

Why Accreditation?

  • Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable education program  — a trustworthy institution for student learning
  • Validates the integrity of the school’s program and transcripts
  • Facilitates transfer of credits to other English-speaking schools — critical for college/university acceptance worldwide
  • Fosters the ongoing improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning

How can I participate as a parent/guardian?

Parents and students are stakeholders in this process and therefore provide invaluable information for the school as we continue to refine our school-wide goals and action plan. With this in mind, we would like to invite all interested parents/guardians to participate in a parent focus group meeting on Thursday April 18th (see below) and to join one of five area-specific staff focus groups later this month and through the fall.

If you are interested in joining one or both of these groups, please complete the Google Form below by Monday April 15th.. Please email Ana Link at alink@fjuhsd.org or Dr. William Mynster wmynster@fjuhsd.org with any questions.
